In these ongoing classes, students learn the fundamentals of how to draw with charcoal and pencil using the classical techniques practiced by the European artists of the 18th and 19th centuries. Students are guided through a series of exercises that help train the eye to see and then draw accurately.
Students begin by copying simple master drawings made by Charles Bargue with graphite. Continuing students tackle more challenging drawings and use charcoal.
Basic drawing supplies are provided as part of the class fee.
Students who have completed copies of Charles Bargue master drawings students draw from plaster cast reproductions of classic sculptures with charcoal and white chalk. Continuing students learn the fundamentals of oil painting in grisaille, to model form showing light and values.

Painting supplies for advanced students are not provided.

Paint a still life that speaks to you using classical methods and oil paint with the help of school director, Raz Seri. Bring objects from home or use ours from the school and develop a painting over six sessions that is personal and unique.

Learn how to create texture and the impression of atmospheric light using palette knives and brushes.Students will work from photo reference and plein aire.
